Spoilers Ahead for Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 6: "Rickfending Your Mort"

Adventure Notes Of Morty

Rick is definitely feeling the effects of having finally achieved his life mission of Revenge, and now he's just using alcohol to numb the emptiness inside. We see him getting drunk and refusing to adventure at the beginning of this episode. Morty, in an attempt to both cheer up his grandpa and get back to the space adventuring life. He finally Cashes in on all of his Morty Adventure cards, a concept that first appeared in the series in season 3, episode 4, as part of an agreement between Rick and Morty that allows Morty to choose one in every 10 adventures. After Rick refuses to honour his promise of letting Morty cash in on any adventure of his choosing, Morty whips out his Adventure notes, which include the names of all the incidents that Morty has counted towards receiving an adventure card stamp. On the front page of those Adventure notes, we can see Zorbulox Death Race, Memory Planet with a sub arrow that says Memory of the Memory Planet, labradooodle brain heist, interplanetary Cricket World Cup, the isle of the Mortys, Beanie Baby zombie apocalypse two times apparently that happened twice, dark brunch, regional Plumbing convention, takes one to know one which Rick mentions directly, getting good at yo-yo tricks, chicken sandwich waffle and soda caned grenade business.

The Observer

Their argument heats up enough to force Rick to call in for an emergency audit from The Observer, which is this universe's parody of the Watchers from Marvel Comics. The Observers appear to be slices of cosmic Rock capable of replaying the moments of every living being in existence. When the Observer plays the truth or dare moment from Morty's list, we get a clear parody of Zelda's Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom video games. Rick comments on how he believes the movements of the Guardians from the Breath of the Wild games are predictable and boring. Rick forces a battle between two temple knights, one who reveals the truth and the other who lies by demonstrating that one had slept with the other's partner. In the next memory, we get a flashback to Morty getting Rick a western bacon cheeseburger from Carl Jr, a franchise that Rick has apparently been banned from for some mysterious reason probably related to his favourite hobby of alcohol. Then, in the following clip, we get a maximum overdrive with clothes scenario, which is, of course, a reference to the Stephen King book turned 1986 movie Maximum Overdrive, which was a film about a passing Comet over a planet, causing all the machines to revolt against humanity and then when Rick reads out Whistlering Dixie Adventure title on Morty's list. The scene is a parody of Whistler's (from Blade movie) long rants about all the vampire-killing weapons that he makes. You can see Blade's signature gun, boomerangs, and Whistler's suitcase full of weapons. Of course, Rick and Morty are dressed up like Blade, with Rick actually wielding Blade's Blade.

Blade's Whistler Parody

Then, after this, we get a flashback to when Morty transforms into a boat while being bullied at school, referencing those cybernetic implants that turn Morty into a car that Rick reveals that he secretly installed within Morty in season 2, episode 6. The Observer shames Rick for not following his keto diet, and we get a flashback to when Morty licks the nostril of a cyborg parody of the great Ape from the Dragon Ball anime. It was all just part of an ongoing series of Morty bets that Rick apparently has with a bunch of Rick variants at a pub that they all meet up called The Salty Rick. "The Morty bets" on the wall that we can see include Rick getting Morty to marry Mr Poopy butthole, which we saw in Morty's mindblowers episode, which is why it's crossed out, Rick trying to get Morty to believe that he's a ghost, murder/suicide with the president, common law marry a hippo, chug salad dressing, become Santa Claus and drink toilet water. The Observer then targets Summer when we see the Hottie Snatchers clip, a parody of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The Observer shows the infamous Rick turns himself into a leg. He then shows one video where Jerry is shown attempting to retrieve a diamond that Rick tossed away before inadvertently getting an injection that caused him to urinate acidically.

Nevertheless, he is accustomed to it and is not embarrassed by it. He also targets Beth as she secretly drinks wine hidden in the toilet. Later when we get a clip of Space Beth farting during a mission briefing, we can see that Space Beth has been working with her father's old battle buddy bird person. Then, when we get a clip of Morty stealing $20 from Rick's wallet, you can see Rick's license with a picture of a drunk Rick on the front. Morty begins abusing Observer until it is struck by a truck in the middle of the road, killing him.

Rick and Morty Escapes

Then it is revealed that during the entire time, all of these tapes had been displayed, Rick and Morty had been put on trial by additional observers for the murder of the Observer. They mentioned that they have done this similar type of one-sided court trial situation before but with Giants, a reference to season 1 episode 5, "Meeseeks and Destroy", when Rick and Morty get arrested for the murder of a Giant. We see different flashbacks. Rick is seen building Morty a gorilla gun, which he intended to use to intimidate a gorilla, but it ends up killing gorillas. After that, Rick gives Morty a bully gun, which he uses to shoot himself in the belief that it would Empower him to defend himself and become a bully. He then hands Morty a gun, one of several fun firearms that shoot out Jeffrey Dahmer. In another flashback, we get a reference to the 1989 movie Pet Cemetery based on the 1983 book by Stephen King, making this the second Stephen King reference of the episode where they attempt to resurrect objects such as a vehicle, Ben Franklin, Morty's phone and a kangaroo's lower half. Then, the show cuts to a segment in which Rick brings a churro to life makes friends with Morty and finds himself unable to return the Churro to its former State. Rick tells Morty to leave the Churro on a planet since it's essentially an Eternal. Then, after this, we get the Revelation that Rick and Morty killed the variants of themselves cameoed in "Space Jam: A New Legacy. Rick then manages to hack into the Mainframe of The Observers during the trial; he pulls up a memory of one of The Observers selling a bunch of bootleg DVDs featuring never seen movies that do not exist in real-life movies such as a sequel to 2022 Babylon called More Babylon, Amsterdam 4 which is a sequel to the 2022 movie Amsterdam, the infamous cancelled Batgirl movie, sequel to Oppenheimer called Oppenheimer Requiem, Avatar 3 and a sequel to The Social Network called "The Social Network Into The Metaverse". On the verge of execution, Rick uses his Tech to save the two of them, and then he understands that The Observers are no different as they are constantly observed witnessing deaths occur without intervening; the Observers are essentially just as evil as Rick and Morty and that when they begin to quarrel and fight in the courtroom, it allows them to flee. The episode ends with announcing their return and planning a New Journey. Rick apologizes to Morty and expresses gratitude for his efforts to assist and help him get back into the groove.

Churro

In the credit scene, Morty is startled to see a standard churro in his locker. He then sees "SOON" written in brown sugar in his locker. They reveal that Morty's mortal enemy, Churro, has escaped the planet that Rick and Morty tried to abandon him on for the rest of his Immortal Life and has sworn to spend the rest of his waking days terrifying Morty.

A Classic Adventure with Parodies

The episode described seems to be a classic example of a Rick and Morty adventure, filled with parodies and references. The concept of Morty's adventure cards adds an interesting layer to the relationship between the two characters, and using the Observer as a medium for their argument is an innovative plot device. The Observer clips provide comedic relief and insight into the characters' past experiences. As a Rick and Morty fan, the show is going in the right direction, and we can't wait to see how the story unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

Pop Culture Reference:-

The episode's name is a nod to the movie Defending Your Life. The Observers are similar to the Watchers depicted in Marvel Comics.
