Matthew Macfadyen's Role in Deadpool and Wolverine
Matthew Macfadyen, known for his role in the TV series 'Succession', has been confirmed to play a surprising role in the upcoming 'Deadpool & Wolverine' movie.
Introducing Paradox
Macfadyen is set to play a character named Paradox. This character seems to be a riff on Mr. Paradox, a Time Variance Authority (TVA) judge in the comics. The TVA, as Marvel fans will remember, is an agency devoted to maintaining the "Sacred Timeline" and was prominently featured in the 'Loki' TV series.
Paradox's Role in the Plot
In 'Deadpool & Wolverine', Macfadyen's Paradox appears to be interested in the Deadpool we all know and love. He recruits Deadpool for a mission that will somehow draw him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This development confirms that Deadpool's time-travel antics at the end of 'Deadpool 2' were indeed canon and have integrated Deadpool into the greater MCU.
First Look at Paradox
Fans got their first look at Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox in the 'Deadpool & Wolverine' teaser. The character talks to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool quite a bit in the teaser. The teaser also confirmed previous rumors that the TVA would play a pivotal role in Deadpool's next adventure.
Speculations about Paradox
With this first look, a lot of fans have speculated that Paradox might be the hidden villain of the film. Despite the TVA being a little shady in the MCU, there's another rumored bad guy on the scene. However, these are just speculations and fans will have to wait for the movie's release to find out the truth.
Other Characters Revealed From Deadpool & Wolverine Teaser
The character of Cassandra Nova in 'Deadpool & Wolverine' is played by Emma Corrin, known for her role in 'The Crown'.
In the comics, Cassandra Nova is a powerful psychic with telekinetic abilities who seeks to kill Charles Xavier and master the universe. The character is a "Mummudrai," a species of parasites that embody the exact opposite of their "twin", appearing in-utero shortly before birth. Nova is introduced in Marvel Comics as the "twin" of the unborn Charles Xavier.
The trailer for 'Deadpool & Wolverine' provides a glimpse of Corrin's character, leading many to believe that she is playing the longtime villain Cassandra Nova. However, it has not yet been officially confirmed.
