Loki Season 2 Episode 6 Finale Review: Loki Saves The MCU

Loki Season 2 Episode 6 Finale "Glorious Purpose" was an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. The episode was full of action, emotions, and revelations, leaving fans in their seats. The same name, "Glorious Purpose," in Season One also serves as a reminder of Loki's character arc and how he has transformed from a self-serving villain to a selfless hero. Tom Hiddleston's performance as Loki was as impeccable as ever, and as a metaphor, I believe Loki is now holding the MCU together.

Let's dive in further with the analysis:-

The Loki season 2 finale starts with Loki deciding to take it upon himself to learn how to fix the Time Loom. He repeats the process multiple times until he memorizes what Victor Timely needs to do and even masters engineering over centuries. Although the exact duration of Loki's study is not specified in episode 6, he may learn everything about the Time Loom within three centuries or more.

Loki then goes to a time when Sylvie tries to kill He Who Remains. He Who Remains reveals that he knew Loki would return to that moment, and his death was always part of his plan. He tries to convince Loki to kill Sylvie and save the sacred timeline, but Loki refuses and sacrifices himself instead.

After uncertainty about what to do next, Loki revisits his initial conversation with Mobius. Loki delves deep into Mobius' past, discovering that Mobius had once hesitated to kill an innocent variant, resulting in the death of his colleagues. Loki must make a choice irrespective of his desire for a happy ending for everyone. . Loki also discovers that it was Ravonna Renslayer, Mobius' colleague, who carried out the task that Mobius found difficult to do.

As Sylvie's attempt to kill He Who Remains becomes inevitable, Loki makes a final and decisive effort to restore the collapsing timelines with an untested plan. Despite seemingly insurmountable odds, Loki bravely approaches the Time Loom, determined to fix the timeline. Despite being bombarded with the same temporal radiation that had previously killed Victor Timely, Loki successfully destroys the Time Loom, all while embracing his divine nature by donning his classic helmet.

Loki takes on the responsibility of holding and protecting every timeline, uniting them in the form of Yggdrasil, the mythical tree that connects every realm in Norse mythology. Sitting on a throne at the end of time, Loki becomes the protector of the multiverse, abandoning his previous wish for a throne. The Yggdrasil shown here represents the entire multiverse instead of just the Nine Realms, adding a new layer of complexity to the MCU's mythology.

It's true that although Loki has brought some order to the multiverse, the threat of He Who Remains and his variants may not have been eliminated. The TVA reports that a He Who Remains variant has appeared on a 616-adjacent realm. Mobius identifies as Kang the Conqueror's defeat against Ant-Man and his family in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Despite Kang being considered the most dangerous of his variants, Mobius doesn't seem too concerned about it and simply says, "They handled it, so we're good for now." It remains to be seen whether this new threat will pose a future challenge for Loki and the TVA.

Ravonna Renslayer's fate is left uncertain after she is seen stranded in the Void after being pruned. When she regains consciousness, she comes face to face with Alioth, and whether she will survive is unknown. Then, we see the pyramid in the background that could suggest Kang's Pharaoh variant, Rama-Tut. Additionally, the floor inscription shows the motto "For all time. Always." could also be significant and potentially lead to further developments in the MCU.

After returning to the regular time-space continuum, Mobius informs Hunter B-15 that he plans to take a break from the TVA and reconnect with his human origins. However, since he has no connections on Earth, how he will achieve this is unclear. Additionally, it's unlikely that he will impersonate his past self to attain a relatively normal life. As for Sylvie, the episode suggests that she and Loki will support each other in their new lives. They could return to the TVA or visit any point in time whenever they like, leaving their options open. It will be interesting to see how these characters' journeys continue.
