Johnny Depp's Directorial Comeback: Credits Al Pacino for 'MODI'

After a 25-year hiatus, Johnny Depp returns to directing with 'MODI', crediting Al Pacino for his comeback. Here's a look at Depp's journey and upcoming projects.

In a remarkable turn of events, Hollywood icon Johnny Depp is set to direct his first feature film in over 25 years. The actor, best known for his roles in films like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Edward Scissorhands," is making a triumphant return to the director's chair with the biographical drama "MODI".

"MODI" is a film about the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The film is currently in post-production and is being produced by Depp's European production company, IN.2, alongside producer Barry Navidi.

Depp credits another Hollywood legend, Al Pacino, for encouraging him to direct his first film since 1997's "The Brave". In a statement, Depp said, "To Al, who requested that I make this film—how could I refuse Pacino?".

Depp's return to directing marks a significant moment in his career, which has been marked by both critical acclaim and personal controversy. His recent legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard made headlines, but Depp has since been focusing on his work.

In addition to "MODI," Depp has several other projects in the pipeline. He recently starred as King Louis XV in the historical drama "Jeanne du Barry," which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. This was his first feature film role since 2020's "Minamata".

There are also rumors of Depp starring in "Beetlejuice 2" alongside his ex-fiancé Winona Ryder. However, filming for the sequel began in 2023 seemingly without Depp.
